M Zelaya (pictured)
"Zelaya...fervently crafting fetching melodies with one ear pointed to the Band and Neil Young records of his childhood and the other pricked in the direction of the indie rock artists he holds in equally high regard. Second Story Maker is a fitting testament to these twin passions. These are songs on par with the finest work by Sloan, the Pernice Brothers, and Teenage Fanclub, fellow kindred spirits in reappropriating the sounds of their parents' record collections in thoughtful, energizing new fashions." SF Bay Guardian.

Upstairs Downstairs
Originally formed as a solo project by Tory Ford who leads the pack with an onslaught of “Dreamy, folk-tinged indie rock for the good, the bad, and the ugly” (her words!) The band is complemented by the work of Lindsay Irving on vocals, Kyle McGraw on guitar/bass, James Levis on guitar, & Doug Saenz on drums.
As far as describing their sound, this line was put so well I just had to borrow it from an excellent online music blog: “Mission-based indie rock band Upstairs Downstairs juxtaposes dark, atmospheric lyrics with lush folk-pop melodies, crafting the perfect soundtrack for foggy, rainy days in the city. ” —Local Frequency music blog on Sfweekly.com

Plantain
Plantain is the collaborative solo project of James Fenwicke Holmes (Mumlers, Continuous Peasant) with the help of Andy Paul (Mumlers) and Robbie Lewis. They play loosely concise and folky songs about cabin fever, devotion, and haunted love in a sound that is familiar yet profound. Part summer fun, part winter hibernation odes, Plantain began in San Jose in 2008 and continue to play throughout the Mid Coastal California area. They plan to go to a studio soon and record their first full-length album sometime this summer, that is unless one of them suddenly decides to move to become a chef in another country.
